Today on Torah School

torah school promoThis week’s Torah Portion is “EMOR”, which , in English, is say.  The name comes from the first key word in the passage, Wayyiqra 212:1 “And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aharon, and say to them”  The common name for this book is “Leviticus” while the Hebrew name is Wayyiqra.  Wayyiqra in English means “And HE Called”  Which, of course, the ‘HE’ in this case is YAHWEH.  The name ‘ Leviticus’ implies that it is only for, or about the priests.    In much of this document, we read that Moshe was to instruct all the children of Yisrael, but here he is only told to speak to the priests.

The portion begins with Wayyiqra 21:1 and reads though Wayyiqra 24:23.  We will read specific instructions about the who is allowed to morn for the dead.  Also we see that the priest is instructed to marry only a pure Levite.  We also see that only the pure descendants of Aharon were permitted to serve in The Tent.  In chapter 22, we read that no one can eat of the qodesh offerings while he, or she, has uncleanness upon them.  The Reading continues through chapter 24.  We will read this live on AYM TV

The reading will start at 5:00 Eastern/ 4:00 Central.  You may also watch online here.
